How to Choose the Right Milk Frothing Jug

Achieving the perfect milk texture for a flat white, latte, or cappuccino requires the right tools. When selecting a milk pitcher, our Auckland barista training team recommends focusing on these key factors:

  • Size Matters: For a single standard flat white (around 150ml–200ml), a 350ml (or 450ml) jug is ideal. If you are steaming milk for two coffees at once, step up to a 600ml or 750ml pitcher. Keep in mind that you only fill the jug to around half way so you will use around 300ml of milk in a 600ml jug.

  • Colour: Coloured milk jugs look great and are also the ideal way to quickly identify the correct jug for alternative milk types like cow's milk, oat milk, almond milk and soy milk.

  • Spout Shape for Latte Art: If you love pouring intricate latte art, the spout design is critical. A classic round spout is excellent for traditional hearts and tulips, while a sharper spout allows for ultra-fine details like rosettas.
